Achievements

2016-2017
Congratulations to Northwood’s Faith Peoples, Big 8 Singles Tennis Champion. Also, congratulations to Samantha Sparrow for receiving 2nd place in the Big 8 Singles Championship.
Faith and Samantha have been doubles partners for the last 2 seasons and have alternated this season as the #1 and #2 players as singles this season. In the tournament they both started on opposite sides of the brackets.
The tournament is single elimination. They both made their way through the tournament going unbeaten. Samantha playing 3 matches and Faith playing 2 (as she received a bye in the 1st round due to high seeding).  It ended up that they had to play each other in the Finals which was great for Northwood Tennis.
Faith ultimately won the match against Samantha 6-3, 6-3 sometime around 8pm. The girls started playing their first round matches back at or around 1 pm. Both of them were exhausted but the good news was the Northwood Finished #1 and #2 in the Big 8 Conference Tournament!
Faith and Samantha both qualified for the 3A Mideast Regionals at the Burlington Tennis Center on Friday, October 21, 2016. It is the second straight year that Peoples and Sparrow have qualified for regionals.

Big 8 all Conference players
Faith Peoples and  Natalie Huggins.

Sam Sparrow, Faith Peoples, Allyson Blake and Evie Hoffman traveled to Burlington for the Tennis Regionals on Friday, Oct. 23rd.  We are very proud to have Sam and Faith represented singles,  Allyson and Evie represented in doubles!

Emblematic of the resurgence of Northwood HS' women's tennis program, freshman Sam Sparrow played in the singles final of the conference tournament, held at Orange HS in Hillsborough on Wednesday afternoon. Sam played three matches, including the finals, two of which were decided by third set tiebreakers Though bested by her CHHS opponent, Sam played well. Also worthy of note was the play of Faith Peoples, in the singles bracket. Faith ably handled her first opponent, and played a tough and gritty match against her second opponent, Hailey Polsky of CHHS who ultimately won the singles flight.
Doubles competition was spirited as well. Northwood had two teams in the fray, with the senior duo of Allyson Blake and Evie Hoffman winning their first match, and thereby securing a berth in the semi finals, which also qualified them for the regional tourney, next Friday in Burlington. The doubles team of Rachel Yanders and Natalie Huggins played as well, but dropped a heartbreaker of a match in a third set tiebreaker, and unfortunately did not advance to the regional playoffs.
All told, 3 of Northwood's 4 entrants made it out of the conference tournament and into the regional playoffs. The team made significant progress this season, as seen by the showing at the tournament level. Congratulations to all for a terrific season and best wishes to those moving on to the regionals next week.
